He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

Over the holidays at one point my partner and I started playing a boardgame. The way that you do sometimes; it can't be avoided. Like doing laundry, eventually it's got to happen.

The the aide of not going insane due to a lack of background noise, I looked for and randomly played a cartoon marathon on Youtube. That cartoon turned out to be "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe". A cartoon I have an arms-length relationship with.

I don't know how far exactly I was into He-Man territory growing up. I remember the toys, vaguely. I remember it being on TV, vaguely. And I also don't remember being that interested it either. The world of He-Man wasn't one that really appealed to me.

Much like the world of British wizard/witch private school Hitler wand-lore; the general aesthetics didn't grab me. That and the whole vibe seemed off. Some of the character design is very solid and realistic; but it's paired with shit that looks like Strawberry Shortcake and/or bug-eyed doodles. It's just visual gibberish.

Anyways this morning I intentionally watched the very first episode and paid actual attention to it. My general assessment still stands. It's gibberish but not as bad as it could be. The music is insane. I don't know if the show continues with it but all throughout the first episode it seems like there's only one song and all it does is repeat the name "He-Man!" every so often dramatically.

So... As with every other time I circle back to it, I'm not sure I'll keep watching any more of it. Though I did appreciate the 4th wall break at the end where He-Man tells the kids to not trust con-artists offering get rich quick schemes.

A hero these days would be sponsored by a gambling app that would steal all the kids' data.
